Food Adventures: French Fries January 13

During our last food adventure, we made French Fries in the oven. The kids loved them!

Cash Register Play January 13

The kids used pennies and dimes to buy play food and stuffed animals. They had to count out their money after the "cashier" told them how much something cost. So much fun. Thanks to our CV Mentors for helping us out. 

Read, Write, Cut, Make

During reading groups, we have started a new activity called: read, write, cut, make.  The kids and I read the sentence, the kids write it in their best writing with one finger spaces, etc. and then they cut out the words at the bottom and make the sentence and glue it down.  Sometimes these sheets might end up in the reading book bag, so please have your child read it to you.

Snowmen Galore

Last week we read Snowmen at Night and this week The Snowy Day.  What is on our mind?  Snowmen.  So we created some snowmen for our bulletin board outside our classroom.  I love kinder art and these snowmen are adorable.

Free Choice--LEGOS!

The first part of the year, we use the BIG legos (Duplo blocks) during free choice, but in January the kids get to use the small legos.  They love them!

Painting is always a top choice with the kiddos below.  

Artist in Residence January 7

On Thursday, we met with Mrs.King and created a barn owl.  Each child created his/her own bird.  Our next lesson will focus on using watercolors and coloring in our owl.

Fused Glass Projects with Julie Wilcke.

On Friday we received a wonderful lesson about glass art.  Julie Wilcke is Jacob P.'s aunt.  She drove down from Portland to give the kids a lesson about glass and safety.  Then we got to do the fun stuff: create art.  The kids made a Star of David, a Christmas Tree and a Kinara (for Kwaanza).  This was our big project for Holidays Around the World.  Julie will bring back the fused glass art on Friday and the kids will be able to share what they created.  For those kids who were not there last Friday, she will be making a Christmas Tree to take home.
