Curriculum Night

Thank you for coming to Curriculum Night.  I know the presentation was very short due to our 20 minute timeframe so make sure to contact me if you have any questions.  In case you did not see our bulletin board outside of our classroom check out the picture below.  The kids had fun getting their picture taken and coloring their "shoes."

Look how cute they all look!

Computer Lab with Kinders? Yep!

Yesterday we went to the computer lab for the first time.  The kids were so excited.  We talked about how to use the mouse (left vs right button), how to use the headphones and adjust the volume control, the correct way to ask for help, and finally how to login to the Mt. View website.  As you can imagine, the 23 kids that were present all had questions or needed help at the same time.  Once we (Mrs. Weaver and I) got everyone to the correct website, the fun started.  We let the kids "carve a pumpkin" using the mouse as a carver.  This gave the kids some "mouse" practice.   Once they got the hang of it, they really enjoyed it.

So Computer 101 is officially done…and all the kids can sort of use a mouse.  Success!

Look at the focus that our kiddos have.

This is our nice and clean computer lab.  We will go to the computer lab on Tuesdays from 2:10-2:40.

Week 1: What did we do?

We had a very busy week with our 24 Kinders. We learned lots of rules and procedures that will help make our school year very successful. We learned how to walk in a straight line (well it's more of a curvy line right now), how to sit on our carpet square criss-cross applesauce, how to sit in the lunch room and eat our lunch, how to use our word work literacy stations correctly, how to use our math manipulatives correctly, how to go outside for recess, how to enjoy snack in our classroom, how to read to self (looking at pictures right now), how to sing our Alphafriends song, how to read a book from the SMART board, how to behave in music and PE, etc...

The kids were GREAT!  I think they are still surprised when I take pics of them but they will get used to it. :).

Here are some pics to show some of what we did last week.

We used letter beads to make our names.

We used math counters to count and sort.

We used lacing boards to build fine motor skills.

We used ocean animals to sort.

We have been eating snack daily from 10-10:15 in our classroom.

We end the day with free play.

The kids love the kitchen area and the play phones.

Playing with cars is fun!

Playing with money and the cash register rocks!

Classroom Tour

Hello everyone. Here is a quick tour of our classroom. This is where your children will be learning new information on a daily basis during their time in kindergarten.

This is our focus area.  We have our daily calendar, hundred's chart, and our word wall that currently has the names of the students, but will soon be used with our sight words.  This is also the area where I teach writing using the easel.

This is our carpet area.  Kids are assigned a number and keep that number all year.  You can also see our SMART board that we use daily to teach reading and math concepts.

This is our dramatic play area, extra book area, and block and toy area that is used during open play.  The kids love this area.

This area of the classroom houses our math and word work materials.

This is our reading table.  I meet with the kids daily at this table to teach them reading concepts.

First At-Home Project

Please check your child's backpack for a baggie full of stuff.  I sent an at-home project today (Monday) and will send the same one home tomorrow (Tuesday).   Please return it by next Monday. You will also find a certificate of completion of the first day of Kindergarten and our first book order which is due September 26. You can order online if you want. Directions are on our class website.

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Welcome to our kindergarten classroom blog!  I have created this blog to keep you informed throughout the year on everything that we are doing in our kinder classroom.  Through pictures and short descriptions, I will be able to show you all the fun learning that your children are engaging in on a daily basis rather than just tell you about some of the activities through a newsletter.  Please use the pictures I post as conversation starters with your children to find out what they have been up to in the classroom.
