First Day with ALL the Kids--Wednesday, Sept 16

Wow!  The Monday and Tuesday kids mixed very well together.  We have an awesome class!

In the morning, we worked on beginning, middle and end of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.  We watched the book on YouTube a couple of times.  The kids did great at figuring out what happened at what time in the story.  We learned a new poem "Time For School."  Ask your child to sing it for you (they might need a few more days to completely memorize it).  We put our poem in our poetry journals and illustrated the poem.  How cool is that?  We went to music and had our first sub, but the student teacher did a great job.  We then counted to 100 by exercising and then sorted buttons and played with shapes.  We of course ended the day with some play time.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom activity.  Karen, Zach and Cooper are working hard at our floor table.

Westley chose a "sitting on the floor" table all to himself
(well, he did have his reading buddy with him.)

Look at those happy workers.

Josiah and Emily liked our tables with chairs today.  They were very focused.

All these girls chose to use on of the standing tables to do their work.  Look at those happy girls.

Jacob P. and his reading buddy at a standing table.

So cute!

Reading time.

Jazmin worked hard at illustrating her poem.

Rahel read to her reading buddy.

Isabella was very focused on her book.

Zach and Kaden are not asleep...really...just a bad camera moment
but they look so cute reading together that I still had to post their picture.

I love buddy reading and so do James and Devin.

Emily is enjoying the story.

Button sorting activity.  Yes, I had buttons all over, but it was fun!

Shapes activity. Directions: do whatever you want with them, but keep them on the table.

More buttons.

First Day of Kindergarten (for last names M-Z)

We had a wonderful day today.  Just like with yesterday, we started out with table activities, moved to the carpet and discussed procedures/expectations.  We then read several Pete the Cat books, took a tour of the school, went to recess, listened to Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and ate a snack that looked like a coconut tree, worked on a name project, went to lunch/recess, read No! David!, did an activity based on that, went to MUSIC, came back, watched a YouTube video of another Pete the Cat story, colored our shoes for a project, went to recess, and then packed up and played a little.  BUSY DAY!!!

Here are some pics of the day:

Cora worked hard on her bead name.

Isabella, Josiah, Westley, and Emily worked very hard.

Kaden, Tru and Sahasra worked very hard on their projects.

Zach and Elise worked hard on their bead names.

Jacob P. was very focused on his work.

The kids getting ready to eat their Chicka Chicka Boom Boom snack tree.

Zach and Kaden enjoyed the "time" book together.

Playing with cars during free choice.

Playing with the animals.

Lots of kids enjoyed playing with the cars.

Cora had fun choosing a "reading buddy" to hold.
