We had our Naturalist in Residence session with Mrs. Uebel on Thursday. It was so much fun. We learned about Mt View Creek and how we have the wetlands near our school. We then went to the wetlands to measure the height of the water at the deepest point, lowest point, temperature, and PH level. The kids did a great job following directions and no one fell in. A very successful day!
This is a journey of my current kindergarten class from September 2015 through June 2016.

Courage Award--Jake
Every week we have an assembly where we focus on a character trait for two weeks. Then we choose a child who has displayed the character trait on a regular basis. It's really hard to choose just one kiddo since so many kids display the traits regularly. This week Jake earned the courage award for always making good choices even when it is a hard thing to do. Congrats Jake!

Math Games: Numbers in the Teens
We are learning how to make numbers in the teens. We have been practicing with one group of tens and ____ ones. The kids are doing great at showing me they understand with the math manipulatives and telling me using with their "math talk."
Working on Science Fair Dioramas
The kids worked very hard at creating their penguin habitats for the science fair. They worked in groups. Sometimes they agreed on what they wanted in the project; other times they did not. It was a good team building exercise.

Valentine's Day Celebration February 12
We had a great day being nice to each other all day. We exchanged valentines, ate one piece of candy, a 1/2 cookie and 1/2 a cupcake. We drank some juice and Capri Suns. We watched a Franklin short movie about Valentine's Day. And then the kids went home to YOU! Thank you for all the goodies you bought for the kiddos and the goodies you gave to me. Yum!
Empathy Awards
Every 2-3 weeks we give out an award for a character trait. This week the award was for empathy. Cora and Laynee have both shown empathy on a daily basis in our classroom and around the school.
Nice job girls.
