Artist in Residence--Making "Blueberries"

Today we had our first session of Artist in Residence led by Sharon King.  The kids learned how to take three colors of clay and mix them to create an awesome shade of blue.  They learned how to take one big ball of clay, break it into two, then five, then 10 balls of clay.  They added a hole to each blueberry where the stem would have been and added a leaf or two or three depending how much they divided the green clay.  They had a blast and were good listeners.  Yes!

Directions on how to make the blueberry clay.

These are the balls of clay the kids got to mix together.
They had a blast mixing the colors.
It wasn't as easy as you'd think.

Cody and Nikolas are concentrating on mixing the clay.

Garrett is focusing on his clay.

Hannah is almost done mixing.

The kids are showing Mrs. King that they have some cool blueberry clay.

They are so excited!

Giovanni loves his clay.

Abigail and Lillian are mixing and mashing their clay.

The blueberries will be stored in egg cartons to dry out and harden.
They will go home at a later time.
We have more projects to create and will send everything home together.

Thank you to our parent volunteers Mr. Malik and Mrs. Penselin for helping out.
