Week of October 27

This was a very short week due to conferences, but we did manage to get a few things done.

On Monday, October 27, we had a visit from two Adair Rural Fire Department volunteer firefighters (who are also parents in Ms. Loggins class) to go over some fire safety rules.  They brought us a  "real" firetruck to check out.  The kids loved watching the firefighter get into his "turnout gear."  He showed us the Nomex hood, insulated pants with velcro, the insulated gloves that are always in a specific pocket, insulated rubber boots, an insulated jacket, a helmet with a mask to breathe oxygen, air tank and backpack, etc. The kids loved it.  He even spoke to them with his mask on to help them understand that firefighters are not scary even dressed up in all their gear.

Thank you Adair Rural Fire Department for taking the time to visit our kindergarten classrooms.

There are lots of nooks and crannies on firetrucks!  The kids were fascinated.

Here he is putting his mask on.

He is hooking everything up.

I wish I remembered their names...  She is telling the kids that even though he is in his full firefighter outfit and sounds different, he is still the same person and is not scary.

On Tuesday, October 28, we worked on the IXL math program on our iPads.  Thank you to Abigail's mom for setting up all the kids' accounts on the iPads and to Garrett's mom and Lillian's dad for helping teach the kids how to use the program.  The kids worked on activities with numbers up to 5, just to give them an idea of what the program is about.  They seemed to enjoy it and did a great job.  This will be used in addition to our math program and our math stations.  This is a great way to differentiate math skills between the kids.  Remember, you can use it at home too.  I will send you an email with all the information again.

Miri really enjoyed using IXL on her own.

Samuel did a great job with his counting.

Maddy moved right along in the program and really enjoyed it.

Jakob had fun counting with IXL.
